Ok, please tell me, one of you out there, that you have done this too...
On Thursday, I was very excited that Craig was coming home that night, but I had a crazy busy day to get through. I made sure that Chloe and I left the house early, since it was really icy out. We get to daycare nice and early, in fact, the other little girl at daycare, Isabella, was getting dropped off at the same time when I had arrived. Her dad's truck was in the driveway, so I pulled on the side of the road. I unlocked the car doors, tossed the key in the cupholder and went in the back seat to get Chloe. Isabella's dad came out and offered to move his truck so I could pull in since the road was so icy. So, I said OK, took the sippy cup from Chloe, reached between the seats, dropped it in the cupholder and shut her door so I could get in the front seat to move the car.
Yeah, you saw it coming, right? When I dropped the sippy cup in the holder, it hit the power lock button. I locked my kid in the car. She was still strapped in her seat.
Luckily, I stayed calm. We called AAA, but since it was so icy, they were very busy and couldn't be there for at least an hour. So we called the police. The police station is just down the road from the sitter's house and the cop arrived in minutes. Evidently when you tell them a kid is locked in a car, they come pretty quick. He was able to unlock my car within minutes. Chloe sat in the car, smiling and swinging her feet the whole time.
I felt like an idiot. I was late to work. What a crap-tastic start to a day!
Anyway, the weekend went pretty well. On Friday, we went up to my parents to have cake for my mom's 59th birthday. It was good to have a little visit, but it is so hard to do it on weekday's since it is a lot of driving around for us.
This Sunday, we went to a friends' house for the Superbowl. We brought Chloe and it was nice for all our friends to see her since it has been a while since we brought her with us. We did have to leave at halftime since that was her bedtime, but it was a fun evening.
Oh, Happy Groundhog day. According to the groundhog, we have 6 more weeks of winter. Great. Get out the shovel. The forecast is for more snow on Wednesday.

Oh no! I'm glad Chloe wasn't phased by getting locked in the car. I'm pretty sure every person I know who is a parent has one of those stories!
REason number #456 I'm not ready for kids yet. I so would have forgot I had AAA and would have busted out a window- and then had a mad kid AND a mad husband. You're not a bad mom at all. You held your composure and took care of business. I'm glad all is well. Kassie's right- all parents have those stories! My dad dropped my sister from almost 6 feet when she was born! (okay- long story- but that's the jist) Trust me- you're agreat parent. :)
No, u r not a bad Mommy. That stuff happens all the time. I did that with my two dogs one time however the cops don't come running when it's animals...even if they are your babies. I sat there waiting for AAA for 2 hours, watching my two wild animals destroy every single piece of paper they could find...then they managed to crank up the heat on full blast (it was JULY!) and start a CD and turn the volume all the way up. No kidding!!! I was pissed as hell, they had a blast.
Done it. :) When my first son was a baby, my car stalled in a parking lot. When I finally got it running, I drove across the parking lot to a service station. A mechanic met me at the door and I got out to talk to him and as I shut the door, I automatically hit the peg-style manual door lock without thinking.
Luckily the mechanic was able to open the lock with a coat hanger. The 15 minutes it took felt like 15 hours, especially standing in subzero temperatures with my baby in the car.
I've done it with automatic locks also (luckily not with a child in the car). I can't remember what I did but it had something to do with the anti-theft system and automatic locks. The door locked itself even though I hadn't pressed anything. My husband wouldn't believe me until I showed him the instruction manual.
So, don't feel bad, it's easily done!
Don't worry you're not the first (or last) person to lock the keys in a car.
Done it twice myself but that was in the old days before central locking. Once left in the ignition with the engine running the other time was in the boot (trunk) and I had to remove the back seat.
ps: You would never be a bad mummy it would be impossible for you.
Oh no!! You're not a bad mom! It hasn't happened to me...yet. I'm always scared of this, though. I'm glad Chloe didn't seem to mind and the police got there quick!
So I don't have any children but I totally did that to my cat when he was just a kitten. It was July and like 95 degrees out. I still feel so sad when I think of my little guy pawing at the glass and meowing!
Glad your situation worked out okay!
